Here at Advanced Foot Care of NJ LLC, we join you in encouraging social distancing to protect our community from COVID-19. We also continue to provide healthy ways to protect your feet and ankles. Although there are many health-related topics to consider, we hope you will continue to closely watch and monitor the health of your feet.

April is National Foot Health Awareness Month, and we want to share three things you can do at home in observance.

You may not be leaving the house every day for work or school, but you still need to wash your feet daily. If you’re walking barefoot, you are picking up dust or dirt that may be on your floors. If you step outside in flip-flops, you may get some dirt under your feet. While you’re resting, your feet may sweat. Wash and dry your feet every day to limit the buildup of moisture between your toes. Fungus loves this environment.

Regardless of your age or medical condition, take a look at your feet. Is it time for a toenail trim? Have you noticed any new cuts or bruises? Be on the lookout for redness, swelling or itching, too. Regular foot checks are the first step towards early detection. By checking regularly, it becomes much easier to notice any changes to your feet.

For people with diabetes, these changes can be life-threatening.

Good circulation is a very important indicator of healthy feet. Take this extra time at home to stretch and exercise. Moving your feet can include foot and toe exercises or full-body workouts. You can often use household items like towels to help with stretches or cans to help with weights.
